The text derives from recent policy documents that highlighted the importance of developing a set of skills for workers in the cultural and creative sectors, and takes a critical stance towards them, bringing to the fore the views and attitudes of the workers themselves. The text focuses on how two categories of artists (i.e. actors and musicians) perceive the importance of developing social and entrepreneurial skills. It also looks at how they identify themselves in relation to artistic entrepreneurship. With regard to social skills, the text emphasises the importance of building social and reputation capital through creating social networks and using social media. In terms of entrepreneurial skills, the text emphasises the importance of entrepreneurship in the form of the ‘entrepreneurial self’, which must create its own CV and manage its career through self-organisation, self-management and self-promotion. It also emphasises entrepreneurship in the form of the artist/micro-entrepreneur.
