This comprehensive study examines the economic circumstances and contractual experiences of UK-based audiovisual performers through a survey of 2,469 BECS members conducted in 2024. The study highlights a highly unequal income distribution typical of cultural markets, with performers supplementing their earnings through other work and household income.. The research also documents performers’ experiences with contract negotiations, buy-out agreements, and emerging concerns about artificial intelligence, providing crucial evidence for policy discussions around performers’ rights and economic sustainability in the creative industries.
